Our history
The story of Rondot Group doesn’t start with glass but with a silkworm: can you imagine the journey from there to here?
It all began with Louis Rondot’s grandfather.
He worked for his uncle at Longin Silks. One of his friends, owned a silk mill in France and was on the lookout for technical innovation. In 1935, Specialty Products, an American company, came up with a sizing product called Elmol.
The story of Rondot Group begins with a silkworm
Sizing a silk means applying a surface, so it can undergo the various operations involved in milling and weaving.
This friend asked Louis Rondot to help him on the partnership and new specialism. On learning that Louis was fluent in English, he offered to him a position as his importer …. and in 1936 Franconyx was created…! The big adventure begins.
